Children of Africa (Kenya 2008)

This new print of mine is a "lost" linocut. Its a five colour linoleum cut, but I have used only one plate of linoleum: Cutting, Printing, then cutting again and so forth. Into the top of the plate I have inserted two nails, so the second, third .... print goes onto the identically part of the paper - because of the holes, the nails has made into the paper.

The base of this print is a photo, shot within the riots of kenya at the beginning of 2008. The boy - not older than 15, 16 years - is so proud for his machete. Why seed the leaders in the heads of their children so much blazing hatred?

My wood cut of a nude women is now part of the exhibition 'Black & White' in Munich Moosach: four times. Because i have printed the wood cut on canvas black onto white and white onto black. One time I have made an mistake and the result was grey. But it looks really fine, I think...

Bilder aufhängen für Vernissage 'Black & White'

Heute haben wir die Bilder aufgehängt für die Vernissage, die die Black Art Society am Freitag veranstaltet. Bamgbola war da und Cherry, Ebou, Ras Ben und Wulf - neben Frauen(so zum Beispiel meine Liebste, aber die will ja nie mit auf ein Foto), Töchtern, Söhnen und Hunden. Und so wurde gekunstsimpelt (statt gefachsimpelt), dass es eine wahre Pracht war.

Ras Ben erklärte eindrucksvoll den Inhalt seines neuen Großbildes 'Evolution of Womankind'. Ach ja: Bilder auf zwei Etagen haben wir dann auch noch aufgehängt. Schaust Du hier:

Vernissage 'Black & White'

Von Freitag, den 25. April bis Sonntag, den 27. April findet im Pelkovenschlössl in München-Moosach (so kommt man hin) eine Ausstellung der Black Art Society e.V. statt. Das Thema: "Schwarz und Weiß". Am Samstagabend gibts in diesem Rahmen eine riesige Fete mit Musik und ohne Handkäs.

Das Programm:

Vernissage "Schwarz/weiss"; Freitag, 25.04. ab 19 Uhr
Fest mit afrikanischer Live-Musik: Am
Samstag 26.04.08 ab 19 Uhr laden die
Künstler zu einem Fest mit Live-Musik und internationalen kulinarischen Spezialitäten ein.
Kinder, Kunst, Klamotten und Kaffee:
Sonntag 27. 04 08 ab 14 Uhr geht es um Trommelworkshop für Kinder, Märchen aus Afrika, afrikanische Modenschau, Kaffee und Kuchen.

Die Ausstellung ist geöffnet am Sa. ab 13 Uhr und am So. 10-19 Uhr

Extinguish the flame of the Olympic Torch as it runs through the streets of San Francisco in this brand (!) new flash game. Its a nice peace of art. I was able to extinuish the flame twice - hehe!

Erste Professur für die Kunst Afrikas in Deutschland

idw meldet heute:
Die Freie Universität Berlin erhält als erste Universität in Deutschland einen Lehrstuhl, der sich der Kunst Afrikas, ihrer Geschichte und ihrer Wirkung in Europa und weltweit widmen wird. Die Professur wird während ihrer Aufbauphase fünf Jahre lang mit 1,65 Millionen Euro von der Alfred Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach-Stiftung in Essen gefördert.
Damit soll der kulturellen Eigenständigkeit der afrikanischen Kunst und ihrer Bedeutung für die Moderne Rechnung getragen werden. Darüber hinaus soll die Stiftungsprofessur "dazu beitragen, dem für die Zukunft Europas so bedeutenden Kontinent eine erweiterte Aufmerksamkeit zu schenken."

The guys of Cubo.cc takes this an build it into a flash animation as a nearly lifelike model, which follows your cursor around the screen like its a fly on the wall. It twinkers and smiles and have very red eyes, perhaps becaouse of following so much cursors all the time.

Pecha Kucha: The art of presentation

Pecha Kucha is a japanese invention. Each presenter is allowed 20 images, each shown for 20 seconds each - giving 6 minutes 40 seconds of fame before the next presenter is up. This keeps presentations concise, the interest level up, and gives more people the chance to show. Its more meaningful than powerpoint karaoke but also funny. Pecha Kucha nights are now happening in 114 locations globally - also in Berlin and Cologne, of course not in Munich.

Blinder Maler gewinnt Youtube-Award

Die Farbe weiß fühlt sich an wie Zahnpasta, schwarz wie Öl: John Bramblitt, Kunststudent an der University of North Texas (UNT), malt impressionistische Bilder - obwohl er inzwischen erblindet ist. Der Reporter Bob Phillips hat den Künstler porträtiert - und dafür den YouTube-Award in der Kategorie "Inspiration" gewonnen:
